PODCASTING / RECORDING OF AUDIO FILES

NOTE: "Podcasting" is often believed to be an audio file uploaded to a website for access by other users.  This is not a totally accurate definition of a podcast.  A podcast allows the audio file to be pushed to another audio device such as an mp3 player.  For a full definition and description of a podcast from Wikipedia, click here.  For many of the uses shown below, all audio files will be stored on the BOCES Podcast server with the ability to have true podcasting capability.

BCSD General Uses:

  • This technology allows the students to hear themselves speak with the goals of improving oral fluency, comprehension, public speaking, and the editing and revising process.  The students also can share their podcast with anyone around the world, just by accessing the website.
  • Using a simple audio recording program, such as Audacity, to record student work will improve oral fluency and public speaking while increasing comprehension of written text.   Allowing students to listen to their recording will provide an opportunity for reflection on the editing and revising writing process.
  • Students can share their work with others in a forum that does not require their physical presence.  They learn that the sharing of their work is not confined to the four walls within their classroom, and to a sheet of paper.
  • Important lessons can be recorded for student playback at a later date, or from any location.
